Catawba County Schools Announces New Principal for Mill Creek Middle School

NEWTON, May 10, 2021 -- Catawba County Schools Superintendent Dr. Matt Stover announced the newest addition to the principal's team: Mr. Chris Burr will be the new principal of Mill Creek Middle School. The school board confirmed the position on Monday night. 

"We are so excited to be able to welcome Mr. Chris Burr to CCS and Mill Creek Middle School," said Stover. "Mr. Burr's rich experience as a middle school principal as well as serving as a Superintendent in Colorado will bring a wealth of expertise and passion to Mill Creek for its students, staff, and the community!"

Having been in education for 25 years, with the last 15 in administration, Burr has an abundance of experience. He has been both an elementary and middle school assistant principal and spent six years as a middle school principal before serving as superintendent of the Upper Rio Grande School District in rural southwest Colorado for the past five years. 
"I have learned a great deal in twenty-five years as an educator... from teacher and coach to administration; all of my experience helps me do my best to help a team create the very best school possible." 

Burr received his Bachelor of Science in Education with an emphasis in Math and Science from Wright State University, followed by his Master of Science degree in Educational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University. 

The move to the Mill Creek community is purposeful as his family lives in the area. "I enjoy spending time with our wonderful granddaughter and our kids and parents who live in the Sherrills Ford and Denver area," said Burr. "My wife has been a teacher for 25 years, and my son is currently a teacher in the Lake Norman area." He is also an avid golfer and fisherman and is excited to be part of the Mill Creek Middle community.
